New York voted the World’s favourite City, London best in Europe

The USA’s New York City was voted as the world’s favourite city in the worlds largest ever survey of its kind by the research company Ipsos MORI, the survey polled 18,000 people in 24 countries. London came in a close second also winning the top spot for being Europe’s top city.

New York also won top spot in the best place to do business category whilst London achieved a top five spot in each of the five categories. London’s position is particularly impressive and is likely to give the city a boost as it was ranked higher than cities such as Tokyo, Abu Dhabi and Shanghai. Zurich won the best city to live in category.

The survey asked people living in the 24 countries to choose from a list of 48 major cities and asked which ones they would most want to visit, which one was the best to do business in, and which the best place to live is.

“The citizens of the world have spoken and given a massive vote of confidence in London and the UK. Among young people around the world we tie with New York as the most popular place to live on the planet. Together with positive signs for the UK economy and London generally, and after a brilliant Olympics in 2012, this survey reaffirms London as not only the most important city in Europe, but also affirms Britain continuing to punch above its weight globally,” said Ben Page, Cheif Executive of Ipsos MORI.
