Today is Valentine’s Day so it’s time for the customary love and romance related posts. To get into the spirit of things the Expat Hub looks at the top ten most romantic cities in the world.

10) Buenos Aries (Argentina)

The capital of Argentina, home of the passionate Argentine tango oozes romance. The streets offer a mixture of European elegance and Latin American seduction with a backdrop of impressive architecture, tango dancing and tree lined boulevards. For a romantic getaway Buenos Aries is a good choice.

9) Lisbon (Portugal)

Lisbon has all of the ingredients to be one of Europe’s most romantic cities. It boasts a spectacular mixture of old and new as well as beautiful scenery overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.  The Portuguese capital boasts the home of European Romanticism in nearby Sintra.

Tokyo may be better known to be a hub of futuristic technology but it also offers a plethora of historical attractions, beauty spots and romance.

The Catalan city of Barcelona is a renowned destination for loved up couples as it offers several famous romantic spots. The magic fountain of Montjuic, the Plaza de Espana and the Parc Guell are some of the most famous spots.

Sin city may not strike you as one of the most romantic places in the world but it is. Honest. The dazzling lights of Vegas and the amazing hotels offer amazing views. The view from the observation deck of the Stratosphere tower and the view of the Bellagio fountains are sure to make you feel loved up. Why not take your lover on a moonlit dinner cruise on Lake Las Vegas.

Another city not commonly thought of as a romantic getaway, Hong Kong makes the list thanks to the Island Shangri-La hotel. The luxury hotel offers all the pampering and service you would expect from a five star hotel but it is the views of the mountains and the bay that makes it such a special romantic location.

This city seems to have been made for romantic walks, with monumental avenues circling around pedestrian streets. The soundtrack is usually Mozart’s classic sounds, and when your legs finally need some rest there are the horse-drawn carriages to take a ride in. Vienna gives lovers a sense of what it’s like to live as a king and queen, visiting the regal splendour of the city’s palaces and museums.

One of the world’s most famous and spellbinding cities, Rome allows lovers to walk the ancient streets, gather by its many unique fountains and take in the amazing piazzas. Rome truly is a magical place.

Paris is often promoted as the city of love. No-one can deny that it really is a city for lovers. Go for strolls along the Seine, sipping coffee at a café, or go for picture-perfect moments in romantic neighbourhoods. Then there’s the Champs Elysees, the Eiffel Tower lit up at night, and the many gardens like the Jardin du Luxembourg. In Paris, love is certainly in the air.
