I had always dreamt about moving abroad when I was younger, it was something I had talked about, but never got round to doing…. so when my partner was offered the opportunity to move to France for work, how could I say no….it was now or never.
Our destination…Toulouse, in South West France. Toulouse is not a typical tourist destination but is a large city, centrally located in the Midi Pyrénées, famous for its Toulouse sausages, sky illuminations and brick architecture that glistens pink in the heat of the sun.
A little bit about me…
One of the major dilemmas for me when it came to moving, was what would I do over there? Being only 23 and having recently graduated I am far from ready to be a housewife or become a mum… however with some sturdy determination and thorough research I managed to find a French language course, where I could study French and be placed in a French speaking internship afterwards….I have not yet started my internship so my challenge still awaits, but it is something I look forward to with eager anticipation.
The good, the bad and the ugly
Moving abroad always has its ups and downs; the best point for me is the opportunity to travel over here, with so much on our doorstep there are always so many adventures to be had and so much exploring to be done. On the downside living away from family and friends and starting from scratch is always difficult, and some days I still find myself yearning for my home comforts.
Onwards and upwards
Although I am still relatively new to the expat community and only moved away 2 months ago, I already feel like I have the expat bug and have a feeling that Toulouse won’t be our final destination….
